What Can You Do to Halt Hair Loss

Some hair loss is perfectly normal. Everyone, male and female, naturally loses 50 to 100 hairs a day. However, if you appear to be losing too much hair, or you notice the appearance thinning or bald spots, there are several things you can do to put a stop to this hair loss.

Adopt a Healthy Diet

Your hair is sensitive to your diet. Very low calorie diets and eating disorders can be the cause of hair loss.

Hair is made up of protein, so it naturally follows that you could experience hair loss if you don’t ensure that your diet contains sufficient protein. Not getting enough protein is not necessarily a problem in developed countries, but increasing your protein intake further can still help to put an end to hair loss. Eating fish is especially beneficial, owing to the abundance of oils in fish.

Make sure you are getting enough B vitamins, vitamin C, folic acid and biotin. Normally you will ingest these nutrients if you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. 5 a day is the popular theme.

Shampooing

Ensuring that your hair and scalp stay clean can help to stop hair loss. It’s recommended that your hair is washed at least every other day. While you’re shampooing, be sure to also massage the scalp and hairline well. This will increase circulation to your hair follicles. Using nizoral shampoo may also help put a stop to hair loss.

Conditioners

Conditioning and moisturizing your hair is also very important. Dry brittle hair not only falls out, but also breaks off. Protein conditioners especially those with hydrolyzed human hair keratin proteins will give the best results. Leave the conditioner on for three to five minutes before rinsing.

Protect From UV Radiation

Just like your skin, your hair can also get sunburned. If your hair is also really thin, your scalp mayn get sunburned also. You should protect your exposed scalp from UV radiation by using a good sunscreen. Protect the hair itself by covering it or by using a leave-in conditioner with sun block.

Natural Remedies

Some people have found that taking silica capsules also helps stop hair loss. Ginko biloba may help because it is designed to improve the circulation to the scalp. Yet another common natural remedy is to rinse your hair in a mix of cider vinegar and sage tea once or twice a week.

Minoxidil (Rogaine

Accutane Side Effects Lawyer Hair Loss, Depression, Suicide

You probably know the drug isotretinoin by its trade name, accutane. Accutane is a powerful drug often used to treat acne. Unlike other acne treatments, which are simply antibacterial agents, accutane actually changes the composition of the skin. Accutane causes skin to produce less oil, which almost always results in a reduction of acne. Accutane is very powerful and effective, but this comes with some very dangerous side effects that everybody should be aware of. If used or administered improperly, accutane can do more harm than good.

Almost everybody who uses accutane suffers from mild side effects like itchy skin, chapped lips, hair loss, and nosebleeds. These are very minor compared with some of the more dramatic side effects. Accutane causes horrible birth defects if used while a mother is pregnant, and women taking accutane have to sign a contract that they are willing to undertake an abortion if they become pregnant during or directly after their use of accutane. Other problems include decreased night vision, joint pain, and disorders of the intestinal and urinary systems.

Some patients develop terrible headaches that can lead to brain aneurisms. Some patients taking accutane fall into severe depression and many have committed suicide. The actual numbers are hard to come by because the majority of accutane users are young adolescents, an age group that is always plagued by raging hormones and emotional swings. When these young people take their lives while using accutane their families do not always realize that the depression, and resulting death, was actually caused by the drug. Some people feel that drug companies should be held responsible for distributing a drug with side effects as life-threatening as the disease of depression.

If you or someone you love is using accutane and is suffering from any of these terrible side effects, please talk to a trained drug lawyer. Victims across the country are filing suit with Roche Pharmaceuticals, the makers of accutane, to gain justice for the terrible side effects accutane has unleashed. Accutane can produce pleasing aesthetic results, but at a potentially devastating cost in health risks.

Cause of Baldness in Women

Almost all women who experience baldness find themselves looking in the mirror, asking “Why me?” It’s not an inappropriate question. Since childhood, us girls were taught to take pride in our appearances. Mothers always combed our hair a certain way and made our pony-tail’s ‘just right.’ Suddenly, something has changed. The hair that we took for granted is falling out. Why? What’s going on?

Current research teaches doctors that something triggers a woman’s immune system (white blood cells) to attack the body’s hair follicles. Unfortunately, this ’something’ has yet to be defined by researchers. There is no known cause for this change in the immune system.

This disorder is known as Alopecia Areata. The condition doesn’t only occur in women. It happens to both men and women of all ages. You’re not alone! Alopecia Areata has been reported to be found in four million people around the world.

Typically, Alopecia Areata is onset in childhood. Out of every five people affected by the disorder, one of them has a family history of Alopecia Areata. This information strongly suggests that this form of baldness can be inherited. Unfortunately there is no known measure for prevention.

Not sure you have Alopecia Areata? You should consult your physician for prognosis and treatment. Check to see if you have any or all of the following symptoms:

 Patchy areas of hair are missing
 Circular bald patches (approximately the size of a quarter) appear
 In extreme cases, eyelashes, eyebrows, nasal hair, and body hair will completely shed.

The importance of consulting a physician can not be stressed enough. While the disorder is not a life-threatening illness, Alopecia Areata can be very challenging on an emotional level. Especially for women and children. It isn’t something that a person can ‘learn to live with.’ Support groups and counseling are encouraged to help you develop a positive self-image.

Without treatment, a woman’s hair may spontaneously grow back. Nevertheless this process may take weeks, months, or even years! Treatment is more effective in milder cases. Treatments come in the form of topical creams oral medications, and/or injections.

The injections are quite painful and are usually repeated on a monthly basis. Young women are usually advised to receive topical treatment and apply it directly to the affected area. Patients should bear in mind, however, that treatment is intended to promote hair re-growth-not stop hair loss.

If you currently use a topical cream and experience itching, dermatitis, and/or blisters, you should stop using the product immediately. Consult your physician and describe your symptoms. He may be able to prescribe a different treatment to you.
